“God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above (and beyond) all you can ask or think, according to…” Surprise! God’s ability can be limited by YOU.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” – Ephesians 3:20

By the above scripture it is evident to me that man can limit God.  Ephesians 3:20 says that God’s ability, which is way beyond anything we can ask or think, is “according to” (or “limited by”) … us. There is a “power” operating in man that will either release God to do what He can do, or hinder Him from doing what He is able to do.

A Good Example…

Jesus, the Son of God, operating as the “express image” of the Father, healed all manner of sickness and disease. One place says, “the multitude marveled when they saw … the maimed made whole…” Do you realize what that means? Maim means: injure or wound seriously and leave permanent disfiguration or mutilation. That gives me a picture of hands or arms being restored, missing legs coming back, and disfigured bodies made whole. THAT is a display of God’s tremendous ABILITY.

Yet, with all that power, Jesus visited one place where He COULD NOT do anything but heal a few sickly people.

“Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.” – Matthew 6:5 (Bold added for emphasis)

What stopped the ABILITY OF GOD?

“And he was amazed at their unbelief…” – Matthew 6:6 (Bold added for emphasis)

The Hypothesis

Unbelief limits the ability of God.

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive (the devil) out?” He replied, “Because of your unbelief. I tell you the truth, if you have faith … Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:19 & 20 (Bold added for emphasis)

Unbelief limits the ability of God. Faith releases His ability.

“Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel.” – Psalm 78:41

Question

What does God want to do FOR you and THROUGH you? What adjustment do YOU need to make so He can do it?
